Hello
someone of you took the TOEFL exam recently?
What do you think of the speaking part?
You have to answer six questions in a microphone and your recording is then judged in the States, you get the results after two weeks.
Washington University asked me to take it and among its requirements there was that of having a 26 out of 30 in the speaking part.
But I only managed to get a 24, it seemed for me very hard to get a 26 in that part, the time for answering is very limited from 45 to 60 seconds and the preparation time is almost inexistent.
My final total score was 105 out of 120 that is a rather good score. I didn't have any problems in the reading, listening and writing part but the speaking I found it extremely annoying and I don't think it assesses your speaking skills very well.
Let me know what do you think

Hi,

I haven't taken the TOEFL exam yet, but I teach preparation courses for the TOEFL. The trick with the speaking part is that you need to be focused on what you are being asked. It doesn't measure the language skills as much as it measures the ability to communicate the message.

You got a great score and don't worry about the speaking part

I was just wondering, what would be the average score of non-native English speakers accepted into the most prestigious schools?
Since I live in Australia, I have taken the IELTS exam. I have scored 8.5 out of 9, but I am not satisfied yet...I have to say I didn't study for the test and pretty much didn't know what was going to happen during the test.
